Dathlete (noun)
- An athlete powered by web3

SHE has been mapping out our plan to equip athletes with the cutting edge of web3 to enhance future athletics.

Topics for this post:

  • Anatomy of an ERC998 NRG Card

  • CHALLENGE NFTs

  • FAN tokens and DeFi

  • Collectibility, Composability, and Compatibility

  • FAN Club DAOs

Let’s begin,

Anatomy of an NRG Card

Previously, NRG Cards were a tokenized way for fans to invest in their favorite athletes . This core has not been changed, however, no longer are we using the ERC-721.

Enter the ERC-998.

Created by Matt Lockyer, Nick Mudgen, and Jordan Schalm

The ERC-998 token is an extension of the ERC-721 token that allows NFTs to own ERC-721, ERC-20, or even other ERC998 tokens within its contract.

Learn More about them here

NRG Cards will be made following the 998 standard. With this change comes lots of fun new possibilities. (More than we can fit in this blog post.) Keep reading.

CHALLENGE NFTs

“If it doesn't CHALLENGE you, it won't change you”
-Fred Devito

We covered that ERC998 can have ownership of other token(s).

We’ll now track stats on-chain with NFTs!

Saved as NFTs on-chain

When an athlete attempts to complete a challenge live on stream, that challenge will be tokenized into an NFT, holding a link to the livestream of the attempt and results including success or failure. CHALLENGE history is saved to an existing NRG Card, in order to create a historical ledger of attempts within the 998. This tracks progress on-chain!

*Note, CHALLENGE cards are not minted automatically to the parent NRG Card. Instead they are put up for sale and must be collected. Donating to the athlete might give you bettor odds at getting one though 😉

FAN Tokens and DeFi

Since NRG Cards can hold ERC20 tokens, we will also mint an athlete token as well that is intrinsic to the athlete

Personal Tokens, called FAN tokens, are a rising force within web3. The use cases for personal tokens have only begun to be explored, but already they have seen great success from community leaders like Alex Masmej.

One might ask the question, “How does one attain FAN tokens?” Good question. Choose between one of 3 ways.

  • Buy - Buy them on Honeyswap

  • Predict - Stake tokens in the Shenanigan Prediction Market and win FAN tokens

  • Hodl - While an NRG is held by an address, FAN tokens accrue over time.

The main way to earn the FAN token of your favorite athlete is to Hodl. The longer you hodl, the more tokens accrue. NRG Cards will also have Fan Multipliers. If a certain amount of FAN Tokens is contained inside the NRG Card or an NRG Card contains all of its CHALLENGE cards, a token multiplier will be added on top of the already accruing FAN tokens.

Collectibility, Composability, and Compatibility

NRG Cards can hold any combination of FAN tokens, CHALLENGE cards, or even other NRG Cards. As you collect CHALLENGE Cards and FAN tokens, the NRG Cards rank increases. An NRG Card holding a high FAN Rank and a complete set of CHALLENGE cards is going to be valued higher. The best use case for these is to sell fully complete NRG Cards.

And of course, all of these are compatibility with OpenSea using a mainnet token upgrade inspired by nifty.ink

DAthlete FAN Clubs

FAN Tokens are governance tokens for Athlete DAOs, appropriately called FAN Clubs. Through Fan Clubs, Athletes can get closer to their communities than ever before and interact in interesting ways, such as, entering non-legally binding votes, (an example is Alex Masmej’s Choose My Life), grassroots investment, and buy, sell, and colllect NFTs.

More will be said about Fan Clubs in future blog posts.

Let’s learn about this process through an example

Jason Zimmerman is a semi-professionally short distance runner. Jason downloads SHE, and navigates to start a challenge on stream. He fills out this form.

  • What sport do you play?
    Running

  • What specific subcategory of the sport, if any?
    1 mile

  • Add a title for your Challenge.
Run 1 mile in under 5 minutes.

  • Describe the challenge you are about to attempt.
I want to run a mile in under 5 minutes.

  • How many do you want to make?
    100

After filling this out, Shenanigan mints the NRG Card, the FAN CLUB, the accompanying FAN Token, and saves the Challenge to mint the CHALLENGE Card after the attempt. But wait. Jason never made an Ethereum account? In fact, Jason doesn’t even know what gas is. How? Shenanigan pays the gas for Jason using GSN meta-transactions, so he can go from athlete to iOn without gas or even his own Ethereum address.

Conclusion

Lets recap

NRG Cards - Composable NFTs with DeFi tokens and Stat tracking ERC-721 Tokens.

CHALLENGE Cards - ERC-721 Tokens that hold an athletes attempt. Contains an ipfs link to the streamed attempt and the results.

FAN Tokens - Unique athletes personal tokens that are earned by holding an athletes NRG Cards.

FAN Clubs - Athlete DAOs where fans and athletes can collaborate and interact.
